Home Sweet Home Official Rules

Enter by completing an entry form online. Contestants must be at least 18 years of age. Entries must be made by Friday, August 7, 2009. No responsibility is assumed for technical malfunctions or entries that for any reason are not received by the judges.

From among all entries, a panel of Housing and Dining Services chefs and staff, at its discretion, will select a minimum of one recipe per recipe category (appetizers/beverages, soups/salads, vegetables/side dishes, main dishes, breads/rolls, desserts, cookies/candy, and this-and-that) to be featured at the Home Sweet Home event to be held during Family Day weekend. One entry will be drawn from the winning recipes as the Grand Prize winner and will receive two nights lodging at a local hotel for October 23 and 24. Students of families who win will also receive $50 in Dining Dollars. In addition, winners will be invited to attend the Home Sweet Home Dinner to be recognized and receive a framed copy of their recipe and a personalized home sweet home cutting board. All arrangements to accept prizes will be the sole responsibility of the winners.

Recipes selected and thereby posted on the www.studentprograms.vt.edu website will be based on the Housing and Dining Services staff subjective evaluation of the recipes. Sometimes, home-style recipes are edited or modified to accommodate preparation of large quantities.

Upon each entrant's recipe being submitted, each entrant thereby gives Housing and Dining Services his/her permission to feature his/her name, hometown, and recipe on the site and in any print media. Each entrant consents to use his/her name and likeness for publicity purposes without additional compensation, except where prohibited by law. Federal, state, and local laws and regulations apply. Entrant acknowledges that Housing and Dining Services shall retain rights to publish the recipe online and in any print media.

In the event any complaint or claim relating to the recipe is made by any third party at any time, whether a formal legal complaint or otherwise, each entrant promises that he/she will fully indemnify and cooperate with Virginia Tech's Housing and Dining Services in such complaint or claim. Entrant's acknowledgements and promises contained in this paragraph are made only with respect to recipes chosen by Housing and Dining Services to be posted on its website. If the recipe is not chosen, no such promise is made.
